Spiritual Warfare in the Book of Proverbs – part 22

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 21:16

Scripture:

Prov. 3:7
Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

Comment:

In this scripture we find three important truths which we need for the battle.

Do not be wise in your own eyes

It’s when we receive Jesus into our lives, and when we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us, that we become really wise. Trusting in our own judgement is not enough, in spiritual warfare or in anything else. The Word of God tells us to totally trust in the Lord.

Prov. 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

The enemy comes with ‘reasonable’ arguments, and we will be deceived if we judge the arguments from our own understanding. We need to be established in the Word of God, and we need to listen to the Holy Spirit.

Fear the LORD

We need to have a holy respect for the Lord. To neglect what He says, and to choose just what we like, or not, in the Word of God, will lead to defeat in the spiritual battle. The defeat might not come immediately, but it will come. So, it is very important that we see Jesus as the Holy one.

depart from evil

We cannot play with sin, and it is dangerous to get close to the sin of the world. We need to depart from it. On the other hand, we should not depart from the battle. The Word of God tells us to resist, and make the enemy flee.

Jam. 4:7
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

1 Pet. 5:9
Resist him, steadfast in the faith …
