The three heavens

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 16:16

Is there more than one heaven?

Yes. The bible speaks about more than one heaven.

Deut. 10:14
Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the LORD your God, also the earth with all that is in it.

Ps. 102:25
Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.

Isa. 65:17
“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.

Hebr. 4:14
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

2 Pet. 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

How many heavens are there?

Judaism talks about seven heavens, but the bible talks about three.

2 Cor. 12:2
I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago–whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows–such a one was caught up to the third heaven.

Where is ”the third heaven” that Paul was caught up to? The third heaven is where the throne of God is.

Hebr. 8:1
Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

Where are the ’first’ and the ‘second’ heaven?

’The first heaven’ is the heaven we see, i.e. the sky

’The second heaven’ is sometimes called “the middle heaven’ and it is believed to be the head-quarters of the devil.

Why is it important to know that there is more than one heaven?

It is important to know that there is more than one heaven, in order to understand certain scriptures. It is also important to know, since we are to make spiritual warfare against principalities, powers, and rulers in heavenly places.

Eph. 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

What scriptures will we understand better when we know about the three heavens?

There are several scriptures where it is important to know about the three heavens.

Eph. 3:10
to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,

the principalities and powers in the heavenly places” can mean the angels of God, and it can also mean the evil spiritual world to which God wants His wisdom to be made known. In the latter case, it does not mean that the evil spirits should gain more knowledge, but it means the evil spirits will get to know God’s wisdom when the church makes them harmless.

Matt. 18:18
“Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

There are different interpretations of Matt. 18:18. One is, when we here on earth bind the principalities in the ‘middle heaven’, they will be bound.

Matt. 28:18
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

”Heaven” in Matt. 28:18 can mean both God’s heaven, and the ’middle heaven’. It is important for us to understand that Jesus has authority everywhere, not just here on earth.
