Spiritual Warfare in the Book of Psalms – 265

Ps. 143:6
I stretch forth my hands unto thee …

David continues to explain what he does when the enemy attacks his mind. Here he says he stretches forth his hands unto God.

Never forget there is no separation between turning to God in our concerns, and using our authority against the evil spiritual world. If we loose our focus on God, we will fight in our own strength. On the other hand, if we just stretch forth our hands to God, without using the authority which has been given to us, we will not be totally effective.

Lifted hands can mean many different things. It can mean to worship God, or to expect help from Him. But, it can also mean to give up. All of that is important.

  • Lifting our hands in worship and prayer is a mighty weapon. We focus upon God, and at the same time, we make the enemy flee.
  • Lifting our hands towards God, expecting His power, is another mighty weapon. The more we realize that it is all about the power of God, not our own power, the more we become effective tools for Him.
  • Lifting our hands before God, as a sign that we give up our own ability, is incredibly great when combined with awareness that we are channels for God’s enormous power.
