The enemy’s weapons: Human ideas and traditions

Matt. 15:8-9
8 “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.'”

Worshipping God will be meaningless, even if we use the right phrases, unless our hearts are rooted in the Word of God. The Kingdom of God is based on the truths of the Word of God, not on the wisdom of the world. The enemy knows all about this, and therefore the evil spirits try to make the body of Christ open up to the world’s ideas, and to put traditions before the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

A teacher at a theological seminar was asked how to interpret Prov. 3:5.

Prov. 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

The teacher was not totally wrong, but we must never put our own understanding before the Word of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Col. 2:8

How should we deal with the enemy’s attacks of human ideas and traditions?

We have already quoted Prov. 3:5, but let’s do it again.

Prov. 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

Let’s submit our understanding to obeying the Word of God, and to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

1 Cor. 3:19
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight …
