Spiritual Warfare in the Book of Psalms – 196

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 15:32

Scripture:

Ps. 130:1 (ESV)
… Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!

Comment:

We can face a difficult situation in two ways.

The author of the psalm cried out from his emotions. When he said, “Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!” it was a true description about how he felt. He was speaking from the way he felt. He felt like he was in the depths, and many of us know that feeling. Everything seems hopeless, and the evil spirits seem to triumph over us. Fortunately that is not the total truth.

We, who have received Jesus as Lord in our lives, have been given a completely new position. We are in a position of authority, in Christ, at the right hand of the Father.

Eph. 2:6 (ESV)
and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father, and the bible tells us that we are seated with him in a spiritual way. What does that position mean? It means we are seated FAR ABOVE the evil spirits and ABOVE every name.

Eph. 1:20-21
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

We are seated ABOVE sickness, ABOVE financial problems, and ABOVE every circumstance we might face. That is our spiritual position in Christ. From a spiritual viewpoint we are ABOVE our circumstances, not under them.

When we meet difficulties we can, from what we have said here, have two opposite positions at the same time. Emotionally, we can feel like we are “in the depths”, while spiritually, we have a position far above the problems. It’s when we hold on to the latter position we receive faith for victory.
