The enemy’s weapons: Guilt

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 17:08

We mentioned guilt in the previous part, but here we will take a closer look at how the enemy can use feelings of guilt, as a weapon, against us.

Imaginary, or real guilt?

It is important to separate imaginary guilt from real guilt. We will start by looking at real guilt.

We incur real guilt when we sin, and we cannot get rid of the guilt until we confess our sin before God. First of all, we need to receive Jesus as our Lord, and Savior. Thanks to Him, we can be forgiven, and then we need to confess our sin before God. It is when we confess, that we are forgiven.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

When we have confessed the wrong we have done, we are forgiven and purified. We still might be afflicted with the idea that we are guilty and that God is rejecting us. It can be easy to receive such thoughts because we know that we have sinned, but in reality these thoughts about guilt are an attack from the enemy. There is a reason why one of the names of the devil is the Prosecutor.

In terms of imaginary debt, we can, for example, get a feeling that something is wrong, but you don’t really know what. Thoughts may come to you that you have done something that made God angry. Such feelings and thoughts, we need to beware of. The Holy Spirit never suggests that something is wrong, he shows WHAT is wrong.

How should we act when the enemy attacks us with guilt?

The first thing you need to do, when you get thoughts of guilt, is to check if it is a question of real guilt or not. Does the Holy Spirit show you something specific that you need to confess, that you have not confessed earlier? Then the solution is to confess the wrong, and to claim that the word of God says you are forgiven, and purified (1 John 1:9).

If the Holy Spirit does not show you something specific that you’ve done wrong, you can assume that it is an attack. Command the spirits of guilt to back off from you.

If you are reminded of something that you have already confessed, then hold on to that you are forgiven and purified, and command spirits of guilt to back off from you.
