Spiritual weapons: Love

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 15:10

God’s love is a very strong weapon. It can, for instance, conquer fear.

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear …

Does the bible speak about more than one form of love?

Yes, the original text has several words for love, e.g. phileo, (love between friends) and agape.

What word in the original text is the best to describe God’s love?

The word that describes God’s love best, is agape. The word denotes a love that goes out regardless of the response of another.

Can the enemy copy God’s love?

The enemy can offer a false copy of many things in the Kingdom of God, e.g. healing, but God’s love can’t be copied. There are those who believe that God’s love will be the final evidence of the difference between the Kingdom of God, and the kingdom of darkness.

John 13:35
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another

How can we know that we have God’s love within us?

If we have received Jesus as Lord we have also received the Holy Spirit, and the Word of God says that the Holy spirit has released God’s love within us.

Rom. 5:5
… the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Since the Word of God says that we, as believers, have the love of God within us, we can know that His love is there regardless of whether we feel it or not. The truths in the bible don’t change because of the way we feel.

So why don’t we always feel God’s love?

First, we are not called to walk according to our emotions, but we are called to walk by faith. That means, we should not wonder if God’s love is there, but we should believe it.

Second, we need to understand that God’s love is where the Holy Spirit is. When we first receive Jesus, we receive Him in our Spirit. However, man is spirit soul and body. Our emotions are linked to our soul, and the Holy Spirit does not automatically have entrance into our soul. The Holy Spirit entering the soul is an ongoing process, called sanctification, and sanctification includes our cooperation. We could say that God’s love is trapped in our spirit until we open up for the Holy spirit to enter the different areas in our soul.

What is the reason for having God’s love within us?

There are two reasons for having God’s love within us:

• In order for us, to be affected by it
• In order for it to flow from us to people around us

What connection is there between love and faith?

Our faith is activated by God’s love.

Gal. 5:6
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

The original Greek word for ’working’ is energeo, from which we have the word energy. Faith receives its energy from God’s love.
