Spiritual weapons: Prayer – part 2

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 15:59

Should we talk to God about our struggles against the enemy?

In the previous part, we noted that it is wrong to ask God to cast out evil spirits. So should we speak to God about our battles with the enemy, or not? Of course, we should talk to God about everything. What it boils down to is, that we shouldn’t expect God to deal with the enemy in our place.

An effect of speaking with God about the enemy is, that we will realize our need for His help when we fight against the enemy.

David, who wrote many of the Psalms, gives the church a prophetic model to follow in battles against the enemy. David fought against natural and spiritual enemies. We, as believers, also have to fight against natural and spiritual enemies (Eph. 6:12). David, in his songs, poured out his heart before God concerning his problems with enemy attacks. But he didn’t just complain to God, he also acted, and he won the victory.

What function does prayer used along with fasting have?

Prayer and fasting is a strong combination. When the disciples tried to deliver a boy with symptoms similar to epilepsy, they failed. Previously, they had been successful in casting out evil spirits, and they asked Jesus why they did not succeed this time. Jesus answered them, that such spirits can only be cast out by prayer and fasting.

Matt. 17:21 (NKJV)
However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting

What function does praying in tongues have?

Praying in tongues is a strong weapon against the enemy.

There are those who claim that praying in tongues is not for our time. The Jehovah Witnesses, for instance, are teaching in that way. They use the scripture 1 Cor. 13:8. to confirm their teaching.

1 Cor. 13:8
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

The Jehovah Witnesses’ teaching is a heresy, because of, among other things, their interpretation of 1 Cor. 13:8. The bible says “whether there are tongues, they will cease”, and the Jehovah Witnesses claim that has already happened. However, the bible says that will happen at the same time as knowledge will vanish. Next time when someone from that sect claims that tongues have ceased, just ask him if he has any knowledge …

Why do the Jehovah Witnesses, and others, teach against tongues? Because the devil is scared to death of it. When you speak in tongues there is panic in the enemy camp.
