Spiritual Warfare in the Book of Psalms – part 90

Scripture:

Ps. 35:1
… Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

Comment:

God fights against our enemies, and He fights through us.

We can get into situations where people are judging us for what we have done, as well as for what we have not done. Then we need to know that God is our judge, and He judges in righteousness. When people judge, there are many times evil spirits behind it.

David asked God for help. He realized that he was completely dependant on God, and we need to realize the same. But according to the Psalms of David he also realized that God wanted to use him in the battle. We can for instance see that in Ps. 101:8.

Ps. 101:8
I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

David says, ”I will … destroy”. He doesn’t say that he expects God to do it for him.

God fights against them who fight against us. We have the same enemies, the evil spiritual world, and not men (Eph. 6:12), but God doesn’t fight instead of us. He fights THROUGH us.
When we ask God to fight against our enemies, we must at the same time let him use us if we want to see our prayer answered. When we do what we are supposed to do, He does His job. When we speak against the evil spirits, God puts His power on our words, and the evil spirits cannot stand against that power.
