Spiritual Warfare in the Book of Psalms – part 89

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 15:40

Ps. 34:19
Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Suffering is a part of the spiritual war.

Lets establish three things concerning suffering:

  • God never sends suffering. God is good, not evil. The suffering comes from the enemy.
  • The LORD delivers us out of suffering. It isn’t His plan to let us stay in the suffering. He has a way for us out of it. A part of His plan is that He has given us authority to use against the evil spirits who are behind our suffering.
  • We are promised a great reward in heaven when we suffer persecution (Matt. 5:11-12)

We want to avoid suffering, and we tend to see suffering as failure, But Jesus said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation” (John 16:33). He didn’t promise that we would escape suffering. But, He told us to be of good cheer and rejoice in all things!

Paul, in Rom. 8:35, is talking about tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, and sword. Then, in verse 37, He says that we are more than conquerors in all these things. He doesn’t say that we are victorious when we never have to suffer. Instead He says we might have to suffer, but there is a victory in it. God has a way out of every suffering.

We cannot remind ourselves too often that lack of suffering is not the measure for victory in the spiritual war. If we don’t face suffering, are we really doing something for the Lord?

When we get rid of the need of having a trouble free life, and our focus instead is on doing the will of God, we will become much more effective in serving Him.
