Spiritual weapons: The Word of God

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 14:02

What functions does the Word of God have in spiritual warfare?

The Word of God has several functions in spiritual warfare. First, the Word of God is a foundation of truth to stand on in order not to be deceived or go astray. Second, the Word of God is a spiritual weapon.

How do we risk being deceived in spiritual warfare?

We must realize that we have a real enemy. People have been deceived by the evil spiritual world starting with Adam and Eve and onward. The evil spirits do not want believers to receive teaching that could stop them from harassing and deceiving. The evil spirits want to stop that kind of teaching, and even more the practice of it.

The enemy is trying to stop the teaching about spiritual warfare by …

• hindering people from being taught about spiritual warfare
• deceiving those who practice spiritual warfare to go astray

The Word of God can help us understand the need for spiritual warfare, and how it should be done, and at the same time keep us on the right track.

In what way is the Word of God a weapon?

The Word of God carries the power of the Holy Spirit. When we speak the Word of God, we release His power.

How do we release the power of the Holy Spirit by speaking?

God puts His power on our words when we speak. The effect, that our words have when we speak against the evil spiritual world, comes from the power of God that He has put on our words.

Should we speak more than scriptures against the evil spiritual world?

We should speak scriptures against the evil spiritual world, but we should also speak commands. We should command the evil spirits to back off, wherever we find them.

Did Jesus only use scriptures against the devil when He was tempted in the desert?

No, he also commanded the devil to leave.

Matt. 4:10
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! …”

What weapons does the Word of God compare itself with?

The Word of God compares itself with many different weapons:

Jer. 23:29
“Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD …

Jer. 23:29
“Is not my word … like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces

Eph. 6:17
the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
