Jesus’ mission concerning the evil spiritual world – part 1

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 16:05

For what purpose was Jesus manifested (according to 1 John 3:8)?

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 3:8
… For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Jesus didn’t come here just to save people. He also came to stop the devil and his spirits. Those two missions are, of course, linked together.

Has Jesus destroyed the works of the devil?

The answer is, Yes and No. Jesus has conquered the evil spiritual world and He has disarmed it. At the same time we know, from what the bible tells us, that the devil will continue his work until the return of Jesus. There will be a pause during the thousand years and then he will be bound.

How is it that the devil keeps on working even though Jesus has conquered him?

According to Matt 28:18 Jesus took the authority to rule on earth from the devil. The devil therefore has no longer a legal right to act on earth, but that doesn’t mean he ceases his work. The difference is, what he is doing now is illegal, and the church, the body of Christ, is able to stop him.

How did Jesus treat the devil?

After having been baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus immediately got into confrontation with the devil. The devil used scriptures, trying to tempt Jesus, and Jesus answered by quoting scriptures. Finally Jesus commanded the devil to go, and at that moment, the devil had to leave.

Matt 4:10-11
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan!…”
11 Then the devil left Him …

How did Jesus treat evil spirits?

Jesus cast out evil spirits from the people He met.

Mark 1:39
And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons
