The man with a legion – part 9

What happened to the man after the evil spirits left him?

After the evil spirits left the man, he was totally changed. The bible says that he was clothed and in his right mind. When Jesus was about to depart, the man wanted to go with Him, but Jesus told him to go and tell the people, living in that area, what the Lord had done for him.

Luke 8:35
Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind …

Mark 5:18-20
18 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him.
19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”
20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.

What was the reason that caused the man to change?

The reason why the man changed was, Jesus commanded evil spirits to leave. It was not tranquilizers, or counseling, that brought the man back into his right mind, it was deliverance.

Why did the evil spirits enter into the man and drive him away from people?

First, we can state that evil spirits always want to harass and destroy, e.g. relationships.

The answer to the question, why did the evil spirits enter the man, is that there must have been open doors for them. However, the bible doesn’t tell us what kind of doors.

We will answer the question, why the evil spirits drove away the man from social fellowship later, but let’s first look at another question.

Did the man have a calling, from God, upon his life?

The bible says nothing about the man’s calling, except that Jesus sent him to be a witness. Yet, let’s ponder about what it would mean if he did have a calling from God from the beginning of his life. That would explain why the evil spirits didn’t want him to have contact with people.
