Spirit-soul-body – part 1

Filed under: Spiritual Warfare School — kellporten @ 13:09

Man – three but still one

You could say that man, just like God, is three in one. You consist of spirit, soul and body but you are still one single person.

It can be expressed like this: You are a spirit, you have a soul and you live in a body.

Can the division of man, into spirit, soul and body, be found in the bible?

Yes, one example for that division can be found in 1 Thess. 5:23.

1 Thess. 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Isn’t the spirit and soul of man the same thing?

No, the bible talks about God’s Word being able to separate the spirit from the soul.

Heb. 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit …

If the soul and the spirit were the same, it wouldn’t be possible to separate them, would it?

Why is it important to understand that we are spirit, soul and body?

Since our spirit and our soul are two different parts, it is important that we know how to distinguish between them, and it is also important that we know how they work. It will, have significance when we look upon the question, ‘Can those who are saved have demons?’. It will also be important when we talk about the difference between being possessed, and being demonized.

The outer and the inner man

Finally in this post we want to look at another way to separate man, there is an outer and an inner man. Your body is your outer man, while your spirit and soul are your inner man
