Scripture:

Prov. 19:11 (NIV)
A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

Comment:

A person’s wisdom yields patience

It is important that we have patience with people, but it is not always easy. What should we do to maintain patience, when we are incorrectly treated? The scripture says that wisdom makes a man patient.

It is important for us to understand that there is an invisible spiritual world behind what we see with our eyes, and hear with our ears. Otherwise we can so easily judge the person who behaves wrong against us, and let the evil spirits, that were behind and inspired him to make the errors, go free.

According to the Word of God we do not fight against flesh and blood, i.e. people, but against the evil spiritual world.

Eph. 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Once we understand that there may be evil spirits behind a person’s behaviour, it will be easier to be patient with him. Instead, we direct our anger against the enemy who deserves it.

it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense

The Word of God urges us to forgive those who have acted wrong towards us, and it’s much easier to forgive a person when we realize that they were just tools for the evil spirits.

To have knowledge of spiritual warfare is not just about being able to fight, it is as much about seeing people in the right way. A healthy perspective on spiritual warfare helps us to show patience, and to forgive.
