Scripture:

Prov. 18:14
The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, But who can bear a broken spirit?

(Swedish version: Courage holds a man up in his weakness, but who can bear a broken courage?)

Comment:

Where do we get our courage from? We get courage by looking at our circumstances with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Let’s give an example. When the Sanhedrin forbid Peter and John to preach in the name of Jesus, the entire church asked God for boldness. As a result they were filled by the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.

Acts 4:31
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

If we now return to Prov. 18:14 we see that courage strengthens us in our weakness. We can be weak in many ways, e.g. by sickness, but we can always receive strength from the Holy Spirit inside of us. The evil spirits are aware of that, and therefore they try to make us think and feel in a carnal way. They want to discourage us, and make sure our courage is broken, in order to weaken us. Therefore it is important for us to listen to the Holy Spirit. He gives us courage to go on instead of giving up.
