Scripture:

Prov. 18:5
It is not good … to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

Comment:

What does it mean to overthrow the righteous in judgment? Let’s start by saying that when we receive Jesus as Lord in our lives, we also receive His righteousness. From this we can interpret Prov. 18: 5 as; it is not right to overthrow the rights of the believers.

What rights do the believers have? We find the answer in John 1:12.

John 1:12
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

The word “right” is a translation of the Greek word exousia, meaning authority. We have the right, authority, to become everything that God has meant for His children. We have the right, authority to cast out and bind evil spirits.

Unfortunately, there are those who overthrow believer’s rights. There are those who teach that we should have nothing to do with spiritual warfare. They claim that Jesus has already defeated the devil. But, it is Jesus who tells the believers to cast out demons.

Mark 16:17
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

There are also those who claim that believers cannot be attacked by demons. They say that the flesh is our problem, and yes, we need to deal with the flesh but we also need to use our right, authority and command evil spirits to leave.

Let’s pray for those who claim that we should not make spiritual warfare, and for those who claim that believers cannot have problems with demons. They need to have their eyes opened to the truth so they stop overthrowing the believer’s rights.
