Spiritual Warfare in the Book of Proverbs – part 165

Scripture:

Prov. 18:3
When the wicked comes, contempt comes also …

Comment:

The enemy often uses contempt. By making us act contemptuous towards people, he can use us to hurt them deeply.

Ps. 69:20
Reproach has broken my heart, And I am full of heaviness; I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.

Contempt comes through words, but even in other ways. A contemptuous look can also be used, and the result can be disastrous.

We need to realize that we make ourselves tools for the enemy when we contend people. God’s plan for them is total restoration.

Jer. 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

When a person acts in way that tempts us to contend them, it is important for us to understand that that person has been stolen from.

John 10:10
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Instead of contending people, we need to meet them with the love of God, and we need to bind the demons who torment them. We need to be God’s tools for deliverance and restoration, so people can receive back what has been stolen from them.

Isa. 42:21-23
21 The LORD is well pleased for His righteousness’ sake; He will exalt the law and make it honorable.
22 But this is a people robbed and plundered; All of them are snared in holes, And they are hidden in prison houses; They are for prey, and no one delivers; For plunder, and no one says, “Restore!”
23 Who among you will give ear to this? Who will listen and hear for the time to come?
